Four neighborhood friends, two guitars, a snare drum—and a dream that started in a 7th-grade classroom.

From garages to Hollywood studios, US carried the spirit of Southern California’s music scene wherever they played.
This photo is from 1966, capturing a moment in time for the band known as US, who played together from 1963 to 1967. They were a genuine Los Angeles group — four friends born and raised in the City of Angels, growing up alongside the electric mix of rock acts that shaped the mid-sixties scene.
US performed at countless venues across Southern California, adding their own sound and spirit to the era’s lively music culture. They also recorded several tracks, including a memorable demo session for Elektra Records at Gold Star Recording Studios in Hollywood. That day, legendary engineer Larry Levine ran their session — the same day he was also working just across the hall with the musicians who would later be known as The Wrecking Crew, recording a new track with Sonny & Cher.
